I recently spent 48 hours in Dubai and with temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius in August, it was just about as long as I could handle. Many of the locals choose to holiday or leave during the summer months because the heat and humidity makes it one of the hottest places on Earth. However, having said that, Dubai has catered for the heat and there is still plenty of indoor activities to experience.
Where to stay:
If I had my time over, I would opt to stay in Downtown Dubai. I regretfully choose to stay on The Palm and while our hotel was beautiful, it was too hot to sit by the pool, and therefore there was nothing to do. If you choose to stay on The Palm be mindful that the journey downtown, depending on traffic, is around 30minutes and costs $20AUD in a taxi.
What to eat:
Since Dubai was only a stop-over destination, we certainly did our foodie research before we arrived because life is too short for a bad meal. For dinner and drinks try Zuma, a chic Japanese restaurant and bar. For something more casual head to world famous Shake Shack at Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates for a delicious burger. For an authentic Arabian experience try Em Sherif Dubai for a long lunch or dinner.
Things to do:
During the summer months Dubai’s beachclubs are closed and the hotel pools are too hot to swim at. If you want to keep busy and cool I suggest you visit the following;
- Dubai Mall- The biggest mall in Dubai and home to all the world’s top designers. If you want to take a break from shopping, the mall also houses an Aquarium.
- Mall of The Emirates- Another great shopping destination with bonus Ski Resort if you really need a break from the heat.
- Burj Khalifa- Take the elevator to the 183rd floor of the highest building in the world for the best view of Dubai.
- Jumeirah Mosque- for a cultural experience visit this beautiful mosque. Jumeirah Mosque welcomes non-muslim guests 6 days per week.
